Maryland father and son charged in $1.7 million fentanyl trafficking case

A father and son in Maryland have been charged with federal drug trafficking following an investigation that resulted in the seizure of narcotics valued at approximately $1.7 million.

Rashad Deondre Hicks, 36, of Largo, faces charges for the distribution of 400 grams or more of fentanyl. His father, Lawrence Alonzo Hicks, 62, of District Heights, is charged with possession with intent to distribute more than 400 grams of fentanyl. Under federal law, the 400-gram threshold carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum of life in prison.

The investigation, conducted by the DEA, FBI, and Charles County Sheriff’s Office, began in January 2026. During undercover operations, an officer made eight controlled purchases of fentanyl from Rashad Hicks.

Search warrants executed at the suspects' residences yielded a significant cache of drugs, including approximately 4.4 kilograms of fentanyl and several kilograms of cocaine and cocaine base. Authorities also recovered two loaded firearms and various amounts of cash.
