Maryland field hockey defeats No. 4 Wake Forest 1-0

No. 5 Maryland field hockey secured an 1-0 victory over No. 4 Wake Forest on Sunday, marking the team's eighth consecutive win to start the season. The decisive goal was scored by Maci Bradford with less than five minutes remaining in the match.

The scoring play occurred during a penalty corner where Bradford passed to Ella Fehr, who then returned the ball to Bradford for a tap-in at the back post. Head coach Missy Meharg noted that the players themselves called for the unique corner play, which caught the Wake Forest defense off guard.

Maryland goalkeeper Alyssa Klebasko recorded a season-high six saves to maintain the shutout, including critical stops in the fourth quarter. The win marks Maryland's first victory against a top-five opponent since 2023, ending a seven-game losing streak in such matchups.
