Maryland field hockey defeats Rutgers 3-0
The No. 2 ranked Maryland Terrapins defeated the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 3-0 in their Big Ten Conference opener. The victory improves Maryland to a 9-0 record, marking its strongest start since 2018.
Maryland’s offense was led by sophomore Djuna Eikelboom, who scored two goals. The Terrapins utilized penalty corner opportunities effectively, with junior Francisca Eschoyez also contributing a goal. The Maryland defense held Rutgers to only nine shots throughout the match, with goalkeeper Klebasko recording six saves.
Rutgers, now 4-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play, struggled to find momentum against the highly ranked Terrapins. Despite defensive efforts from Emily Nicholls, who made three saves, the Scarlet Knights were unable to overcome Maryland’s offensive pressure and defensive discipline.
