Maryland fires defensive coordinator Ted Monachino
Maryland head coach Mike Locksley has fired defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Ted Monachino midseason. The decision follows a five-game losing streak and a 37-30 loss to Rutgers.
Under Monachino, the Terrapins' defense has regressed, currently allowing 33.3 points per game, which ranks 12th most in the nation and last in the Big Ten. The program has also struggled in conference play, losing 12 consecutive Big Ten games.
Aazaar Abdul-Rahim, the current cornerbacks and associate head coach for defense, will take over as interim defensive coordinator. Zac Spavital, the inside linebackers coach, will serve as co-defensive coordinator.
