Maryland football enters interim era following Mike Locksley firing

Maryland football has appointed former defensive backs coach Aazaar Abdul-Rahim as interim head coach following the dismissal of Mike Locksley. The coaching change comes during a five-game losing streak for the Terrapins.

Abdul-Rahim has expressed a desire to provide a fresh start for the team, stating, “This is a five-game season for us, and as far as I’m concerned, we’re 0-0 right now.” The team is scheduled to face Illinois at SECU Stadium.

Illinois enters the matchup with a 4-3 record, though they will be playing without starting quarterback Katin Houser, who is sidelined with a broken hand. Freshman Michael Clayton II is expected to play for the Illini.
