Maryland Governor announces youth theft intervention and parenting programs
Maryland Governor Wes Moore has announced two new initiatives aimed at supporting youth and families. To combat rising motor vehicle thefts involving minors, Moore directed the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services to implement a pilot program in Montgomery County and Baltimore City. This program will focus on identifying youth at risk of or involved in vehicle theft to provide early intervention through social services, law enforcement, and school personnel.
Additionally, the state is partnering with the Parent Encouragement Program to launch an eight-week virtual parenting support initiative. Designed for up to 300 fathers, the program focuses on family relationships, mental health, and educational success. This effort is part of the state’s Young Men and Boys Initiative and will prioritize fathers from communities involved in the ENOUGH Initiative, which addresses childhood poverty.
