Maryland Governor calls for review of campus sexual misconduct policies
Maryland Governor Wes Moore has issued a directive to the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) to review and improve sexual assault policies at college campuses across the state. The move follows national scrutiny regarding how institutions handle sexual misconduct claims, specifically citing recent reports from Cornell University.
The MHEC, which monitors sexual assault policy and incident data for Maryland's higher education institutions, has been given 90 days to work with the Office of the Attorney General to submit recommendations. These recommendations aim to enhance campus safety and ensure institutional accountability. Depending on the findings, Maryland's higher education institutions may face policy changes.
