Maryland launches statewide crash data dashboard
The Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration’s Highway Safety Office has launched a new statewide crash data dashboard. Developed in collaboration with the Maryland State Police, the tool utilizes data from the Automated Crash Reporting System and a data warehouse to provide daily updates on reported crashes.
Unlike the existing fatal crash dashboard, this new resource tracks all levels of crash severity, including those resulting in serious injuries. The dashboard features an interactive heatmap and allows users to filter data by jurisdiction, year, month, time period, and crash characteristics such as driver behavior or involvement of pedestrians and cyclists.
Motor Vehicle Administrator Chrissy Nizer stated that access to comprehensive data is essential for working with safety partners and decision-makers to identify trends and reach the goal of zero roadway fatalities. While reported traffic deaths in Maryland have decreased by approximately 14% in 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, officials noted that certain categories, such as motorcyclist deaths, have seen increases.
