Maryland man wins $50,000 Pick 5 prize after 40 years

A resident of Waldorf, Maryland, has won a $50,000 Pick 5 prize after playing the Maryland Lottery for 40 years. The winner claimed the prize on October 7 at lottery headquarters.

The winning ticket was purchased at a 7-Eleven located on Ruby Lockhart Boulevard in Bowie. The winner reported that he initially overlooked the win due to distractions at the store and only realized the amount after scanning the ticket a second time. He noted that his first reaction to the $50,000 prize was to jokingly ask, “Is that all?”

The winner, who has previously won smaller prizes, stated he plays primarily for enjoyment. He plans to use the windfall for a vacation and to invest the majority of the funds. He also intends to continue playing the Pick 5 game. The retailer that sold the winning ticket will receive a $500 bonus from the lottery.
