Maryland marijuana tax revenue rises 56% to $28.7 million in Q2 2026
Maryland collected $28,685,226 in marijuana sales tax revenue during the second quarter of 2026, representing a 56% increase compared to the $18.3 million collected during the same period in 2025. This growth follows a tax increase implemented on July 1, 2025, under the Budget Reconciliation and Financing Act, which raised the sales and use tax on retail adult-use cannabis from 9% to 12%.
Revenue distribution for the April–June quarter included $7.17 million for the Maryland General Fund via the initial 3% distribution. Other allocations included $5.66 million for the Community Reinvestment and Repair Fund, which supports initiatives in neighborhoods disproportionately impacted by previous cannabis prohibition enforcement. Additionally, the Maryland Cannabis Administration received $2.66 million, and the Maryland Department of Social and Economic Mobility received approximately $2.67 million.
Regionally, the Central region generated the highest revenue at $12.19 million, followed by the Capital region at $6.34 million, the Western region at $5.06 million, the Eastern region at $3.43 million, and the Southern region at $1.66 million.
