Maryland men face charges following separate handgun confrontations

Two separate incidents involving firearms and confrontations have been reported in Maryland.

In Lexington Park, 65-year-old William James Doyle III faces 16 charges after deputies say he pointed a handgun at a group of juveniles. St. Mary’s County deputies responded to a weapons complaint on Liberty Street, where they located Doyle with a Ruger Lightweight Compact Pistol. The charges against Doyle include seven counts of first-degree assault, seven counts of second-degree assault, and counts related to carrying a loaded handgun. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

In Chesapeake Beach, 64-year-old William Vance Herbert faces felony first-degree assault and several other charges following a dispute at a convenience store. Authorities allege that Herbert retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and pointed it at another man during an argument over a scratch-off lottery ticket. The incident, which occurred at a Fastop Convenience Store, was reportedly witnessed by the store manager and captured on surveillance footage.
