Maryland men’s soccer defeats Pitt 2-1 in season opener
No. 7 Maryland men’s soccer opened its season with a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Panthers. The win was driven by freshman Said El Eyssami, who scored both goals for the Terrapins.
El Eyssami’s first goal arrived in the 11th or 12th minute following a pass from Henry Bernstein. He scored again shortly after halftime, capitalizing on a through ball from Bernstein to extend the lead. Head coach Sasho Cirovski praised the freshman, noting he has “a nose for the goal.”
Despite the win, Pitt maintained significant pressure throughout the match, outshooting Maryland 14-6. Pitt’s Mamadou Tall scored a long-range goal from approximately 40 yards out to bring the Panthers within one goal, but Maryland was unable to extend the lead further.
