Maryland police release video of carjacking suspect shooting
The Anne Arundel County Police Department has released body camera footage documenting an officer-involved shooting involving 28-year-old Jasmin L. Cooper on May 7 in Severn, Maryland.
According to authorities, officers responded to a hit-and-run report in Glen Burnie, where they learned Cooper had allegedly crashed a vehicle and then forcefully took a car from a family member. The released video shows officers confronting Cooper in the stolen vehicle, ordering her to turn off the engine and exit. Instead, Cooper accelerated toward the officers, striking one officer, two police cruisers, and a civilian vehicle.
In response to the vehicle moving toward them, officers discharged their firearms. Cooper was struck in the arm by gunfire but sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was later released from the hospital. Following the shooting, Cooper continued driving until she crashed into another vehicle near Reece Road and Telegraph Road, where she was apprehended.
Cooper faces multiple charges, including carjacking, attempted carjacking, reckless endangerment, and first- and second-degree assault.
