Maryland Police Shooting Kills Man at Fort Washington Park
On Friday evening, shortly after 6 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting and a man walking near the Potomac River with a gun at Fort Washington Park in Maryland. A Maryland‑National Capital Park Police officer encountered the man and fired his service weapon, striking him. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and a handgun was recovered nearby. Prince George’s County Police Department officers also responded, and the United States Park Police arrived shortly after to assist.
The Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division is conducting a probe. The identities of the deceased man and the officer have not been released, and body‑camera footage may be made public in the coming weeks. Authorities have asked anyone with information, cellphone video, or private surveillance footage to contact the investigation division.
