Maryland public schools set 2026-2027 start dates

Maryland’s 2026‑27 public‑school calendar staggers opening dates by district. Frederick County will be the first to resume classes on Wednesday, Aug. 19, while Wicomico County will start the latest on Tuesday, Sept. 1. Most districts begin on Aug. 24 (Baltimore City, Anne Arundel, Charles, Dorchester, Howard, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties) or Aug. 31 (Baltimore County, Carroll, Cecil, Garrett, Harford, Kent, Somerset and Worcester counties). The calendar also sets Thanksgiving breaks for Nov. 25‑26, winter breaks between Dec. 21‑24, and spring breaks generally from March 22 to April 2. The school year will end between June 4 and June 17, depending on the district.
