Maryland releases 2026-2027 vaccine guidelines

The Maryland Department of Health has issued statewide vaccine schedules and recommendations for children and adults for the 2026-2027 respiratory virus season. The guidelines include recommendations for COVID-19, influenza, and RSV, alongside routine immunizations such as measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), and hepatitis B.

These recommendations were developed using guidance from medical organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. State health officials clarified that these guidelines do not establish new vaccine mandates, and existing school-entry vaccination requirements remain unchanged.

Under the Vax Act, signed into law this spring by Governor Wes Moore, the Maryland Health Secretary is empowered to set official state recommendations for immunizations. The law requires insurers to cover routine state-recommended immunizations with no out-of-pocket costs for residents. Additionally, pharmacists are authorized to administer recommended vaccines to individuals aged three and older without a prescription.
