Maryland reports 37 traffic fatalities in July 2026
The Maryland Department of Transportation and Maryland State Police recorded six traffic deaths between July 27 and August 2, 2026, bringing the state’s July toll to 37 fatalities. The year‑to‑date total reached 233 deaths, down from 279 at the same point in 2025.
Officials cite the decline to the "Slow the Fast Down" safety campaign launched by Governor Wes Moore and to ongoing Vision Zero efforts aimed at eliminating traffic deaths by 2030. Summer driving reminders emphasized vehicle maintenance, emergency kits, safe lane changes, and avoiding distractions or impaired driving.
