Maryland tax extension deadline set for Oct. 15

Maryland taxpayers who received an extension for their 2025 state income tax returns must file by the midnight deadline on Thursday, Oct. 15. The Comptroller’s Office noted that while the extension provides more time to file, it does not grant additional time to pay; unpaid balances may still incur interest and penalties.

This marks the first extension deadline following the state's transition to Maryland Tax Connect, a new online portal launched on Sept. 1. The transition involved moving over 4 billion records from old systems. Some residents have reported difficulties with the new system, including long wait times for responses and challenges for those who do not use the internet.
