Maryland Tornado Outbreak Causes Damage Across Anne Arundel and Talbot Counties
Five tornadoes touched down in Maryland on Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service. Three of them occurred in Anne Arundel County – two rated EF‑1 and one EF‑0 – including an EF‑1 tornado that struck the Lake Shore area near Patapsco Road with estimated winds of 100 mph, remaining on the ground for about two minutes and traveling three‑quarters of a mile. A second tornado was reported along Lake Drive in the Arnold and Cape St. Claire area. Two additional tornadoes touched down near Trappe in Talbot County, one EF‑1 and one EF‑0. The severe storms also produced damaging winds, heavy rain, flooding, downed trees and widespread power outages across portions of the state.
National Weather Service meteorologist Dan Hofmann noted that a second tornado appeared to have formed on Lake Drive in Arnold, and damage assessments are ongoing.
