United States midterm elections approach with key deadlines

As the November 3, 2026, midterm elections approach, various states are managing voter registration deadlines and mail-in ballot procedures. In Oregon, officials have warned that while mail is generally reliable, rural areas may experience delays due to postal service budget cuts, advising voters to mail ballots by October 27 or use drop boxes.

In Maryland, the deadline for online and mail-in registration is October 13, though same-day registration remains available at early voting centers and polling places with proof of residence. Similarly, North Carolina offers same-day registration during its early voting period, which runs through October 31.

Pennsylvania voters have until October 27 to request mail-in ballots for races including governor and Congress. In Clackamas County, Oregon, over 324,000 ballots are being mailed, and officials have launched a ballot tracking service to help residents monitor their status. Across several states, including California and Colorado, voters will also face specific ballot measures regarding tax policies, such as wealth taxes and income tax structures.
