Marytė retail to expand in Lithuania with 5 million euro investment
A new Lithuanian retail brand, Marytė retail, is entering the market to fill the niche left by the closure of the Russian-capitalized low-price chain Mere. Led by founder and main shareholder Povilas Ugianskis, the company aims to offer a low-price concept to consumers.
The company plans to invest up to 5 million euros over the next three years, with the goal of creating more than 200 new jobs. The expansion strategy includes opening the first stores as early as this September. By the end of 2026, the company intends to have 20 stores nationwide, with plans to expand to 40 locations by next year.
Many of these new locations will occupy the same premises previously used by Mere. Ugianskis, who has experience in chemical manufacturing and fuel station management, stated that the company intends to assist Lithuanian suppliers who were financially impacted by the sudden cessation of Mere's operations.
