Marzabotto honorary citizenship for Francesca Albanese sparks political debate

The municipality of Marzabotto is scheduled to confer honorary citizenship upon Francesca Albanese. This decision has sparked political debate within the Emilia-Romagna regional assembly.

Manuela Rontini, Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Emilia-Romagna Region, stated that the decision to grant honorary citizenship falls under the full autonomy of the local municipality. In response, Marta Evangelisti, leader of the Fratelli d’Italia group in the regional assembly, criticized the regional government for not taking a definitive political stance. Evangelisti argued that the Region should not use local autonomy as a shield to avoid expressing a position on a choice that she claims risks dividing the community and involving a symbolic site of memory in ideological propaganda.
