Marzahn‑Hellersdorf to receive €35.4 million Kombibad in Berlin

The Berlin district of Marzahn‑Hellersdorf will build a new combined indoor‑outdoor swimming centre (Kombibad) in the Jelena‑Šantić‑Friedenspark on the Kienberg site. The project is allocated €35.4 million, with €25.1 million earmarked for the indoor functional pool and €10.3 million for the outdoor pool. Funding comes from the city’s special infrastructure fund (SIWA) and a federal special‑purpose fund.

The plan was approved by the Senate’s Interior and Sport department and the district administration. Public participation in the planning process runs until mid‑July, and a feasibility study is due by the end of August. A tender is expected in 2027, construction is slated to start in early 2028, and the facility should open between 2029 and 2030. Key figures include Sports Senator Iris Spranger, district mayor Nadja Zivkovic, and Bäder‑Betriebe chief Johannes Kleinsorg, who describe the pool as a year‑round community asset.
