Masacre River foam sparks concern for Dajabón rice farmers
Rice producers in the La Vigía community of Dajabón have reported a dense layer of white foam covering the Masacre River. The phenomenon has been observed for several days, particularly near Dique Uno by the CODEVI free zone park and in the Juana Méndez area on the Haitian side of the border.
Farmers expressed concern that the foam could impact their crops, as the rice plantations are currently in the final stage of their production cycle. Local producers noted that the river waters have remained calm without any recent flooding, making the appearance of the foam suspicious.
As of now, the origin of the foam has not been identified, and no technical analyses have confirmed the presence of contaminants. Agricultural workers are calling for environmental authorities to conduct technical evaluations to determine the cause and assess potential risks to the water supply and local agriculture.
