Masaharu Fukuyama to discuss dual career on TV Asahi special

Japanese musician and actor Masaharu Fukuyama will appear on the TV Asahi special program ‘Udo Times’ on August 23. The interview, part of the ‘Legend & Star’ series hosted by Yumi Udo, will explore Fukuyama’s multifaceted career and his philosophy of achieving results in both music and acting.

Fukuyama will reflect on his early struggles, including his 1988 film debut and his subsequent musical debut at age 21. He recalled a pivotal moment at a rock concert that changed his approach to songwriting, emphasizing the necessity of commercial success to maintain professional pride.

Despite being criticized early in his career as an ‘actor-rocker’ for balancing both disciplines, Fukuyama maintained a focus on delivering high-quality work. This approach led to massive successes, including the hit single ‘Sakurazaka’ and acclaimed acting roles in series such as ‘Galileo’ and the film ‘Like Father, Like Son’. The program will also touch upon his upcoming new album, ‘Choushinsei’ (Supernova).
