Masahiro Sakurai shares photo of legendary game directors' gathering

Game director Masahiro Sakurai shared a photograph on social media featuring a gathering of prominent Japanese game creators, describing the group as an “Avengers-like gathering of game directors.”

The attendees included several high-profile industry figures such as Kazutaka Kodaka (Danganronpa), Yoko Taro (NieR), Toby Fox (Undertale), Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil), Hideki Kamiya (Devil May Cry), Goichi Suda (No More Heroes), Keiichiro Toyama (Silent Hill), Jiro Ishii (428: Shibuya Scramble), and Fumito Ueda (The Last Guardian).

Social media users noted that the group largely aligns with the judges and members of the “Game Designers Award 2026.” Following the post, Kazutaka Kodaka engaged in a joke referencing his work, claiming he “wiped everyone out with poisoned bread,” to which Sakurai responded in character. Other participants, including Hideki Kamiya and Toby Fox, shared reflections on the meeting and their experiences working with the award's selection committee.
