Masaka High Court rules on parliamentary election petitions
The High Court in Masaka has issued rulings on two separate election petitions involving parliamentary seats in Uganda.
In the first case, the court dismissed a petition filed by former Defence Minister Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja. Ssempijja had challenged the election of Yusuf Kiruluuta Nkeretanyi as the Member of Parliament for Kalungu East. Justice Joyce Kavuma ruled that the petition was filed outside the mandatory 30-day statutory period, leaving Nkeretanyi as the elected representative.
In a separate matter, the court adjourned the hearing of a petition filed by Rose Nalubowa against State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere regarding the Masaka City Woman MP seat. Justice Bernard Namanya allowed the admission of video evidence presented by Nalubowa’s legal team. The hearing is scheduled to resume on September 30 and October 1.
