Masan Group proposes tungsten scrap recycling to boost strategic material supply

During a government meeting focused on resolving difficulties in land, environment, geology, and mineral resources, Masan Group proposed treating suitable tungsten scrap as a secondary raw material. This shift aims to diversify inputs and promote the strategic materials recycling industry.

The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) noted that a systemic issue in waste management is a mindset focused on disposal rather than circularity. Additionally, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment highlighted the need to monitor interdisciplinary issues, such as scrap import deposits.

Masan emphasized that for the recycling industry to be sustainable, input sources must be diverse and stable, particularly for tungsten, given high global supply concentration and increasing competition. Utilizing technology to recover and recycle scrap into high-value products aligns with global trends where strategic material scrap is linked to resource security and supply chain stability.
