Naruto franchise announces Project Rasengan expansion through 2029
At the New York Comic Con 2026, the Naruto franchise announced a multi-year expansion initiative titled ‘Project Rasengan,’ spanning from 2027 to 2029. The plan includes several major media projects designed to expand the universe.
Key announcements include a new manga titled ‘Naruto: Shadow Rising,’ which will be written and illustrated by the original creator, Masashi Kishimoto. This story is expected to cover the period between the end of the original series and the beginning of Boruto. Further details regarding the manga are slated for release at Jump Festa 2027 in December.
Additionally, a four-episode crossover anime titled ‘Naruto x Ninku’ is in production. This project brings together the worlds of Naruto and the manga Ninku, created by Koji Kiriyama, both of whom will supervise the production. The anime will follow Team 7 as they encounter the character Fusuke in a different world.
Other components of Project Rasengan include a global launch for the Naruto mobile game in 2027 and the release of the Naruto Card Game in June 2027. The franchise is also continuing development on a live-action film, with director Destin Daniel Cretton providing updates on the production progress.
