Masashi Kishimoto announces new Naruto manga Shadow Rising

Masashi Kishimoto has announced a new manga titled ‘Naruto: Shadow Rising’ during New York Comic Con. The project is expected to bridge the timeline between the end of Naruto Shippuden and the beginning of the Boruto era.

Promotional material suggests the story will explore the period when Naruto Uzumaki transitions toward becoming Hokage, potentially featuring Team 7 members Sakura and Sasuke, and Kakashi. The narrative may also touch upon the characters forming their families and the construction of Naruto’s Hokage statue.

The announcement has triggered social media rumors claiming that the Boruto series is no longer part of the official canon. However, no official statement from Kishimoto or Shueisha has indicated that Boruto: Naruto Next Generations or its sequel, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, has lost its canonical status. Further details regarding the new manga are expected to be released at Jump Festa 2027 in December.
