Masato Sakai stars in world premiere of ‘Three Ghosts’ in Tokyo

Actor Masato Sakai has returned to the stage for the first time in 17 years, starring in the world premiere of ‘Three Ghosts’ at the PARCO Theater in Tokyo. The play, written by British playwright Simon Stephens and directed by Shaun Holmes, explores the life of an advertising professional in a near-future setting.

The production is the result of a multi-year collaborative process involving workshops in both London and Tokyo. During a press conference held before the opening, Sakai described the month-long rehearsal period as a profound learning experience, noting that the play defies easy categorization into specific genres.

The cast includes Kana Kurashina, Takaya Sakoda, Seiichi Kohinata, Atsuko Takahata, and Yasunori Danda. Following the Tokyo run, the production is scheduled to tour several Japanese cities, including Okayama, Osaka, Aichi, Miyazaki, and Fukuoka, through December.
