Masculinity Explored in Irish Play and Self‑Help Guide

The stage production The Lads by Tim Charles, set in a small Irish town, follows a group of former schoolmates who reunite for a funeral. The play examines themes of toxic masculinity, nostalgia, friendship and personal shame as the men drink, reminisce and confront their past.

A separate self‑help article outlines eleven traits of healthy masculine energy, such as courage, integrity, responsibility, resilience and purpose. It argues that confidence and empathy can coexist, and offers practical advice for developing these qualities without adhering to harmful stereotypes.

Both pieces contribute to a broader cultural conversation about how masculinity is portrayed and practiced in contemporary society.
