Masdar initiates €5.5 billion investment plan in Central and Southeast Europe
Masdar, the United Arab Emirates-based energy giant, has launched a €5.5 billion investment program targeting Central and Southeast Europe through its subsidiary, TERNA Energy. The initiative aims to establish 6 GW of operational capacity by 2030.
A key component of this strategy is the acquisition of the ‘Enipeas’ solar project from Lightsource bp. Located in the Larissa and Phthiotis regions of Greece, the project has a total capacity of 560 MW, consisting of the 400 MW Skopia and 160 MW Kallithea complexes. Once operational, the project is expected to meet the electricity needs of over 200,000 households and prevent approximately 379,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually. The transaction, which includes two private substations, is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
Additionally, Masdar is expanding into the digital infrastructure sector through a Memorandum of Understanding between its parent company and Khazna Data Centers to develop data centers in Greece. Other strategic milestones for the company include the development of a large-scale pumped-storage unit in Amfilochia and the integration of battery storage solutions.
