Masdar to acquire major solar project in Greece
Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) has signed an agreement to acquire and develop one of Greece’s largest solar photovoltaic projects from Lightsource bp. The project, which has a capacity exceeding 550 megawatts, is expected to be operational by the end of 2026 and will provide enough electricity to power more than 200,000 homes annually.
The deal follows a strategic visit to Greece by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. During this visit, the UAE and Greece held a strategic forum in Athens, resulting in 18 memorandums of understanding and commercial agreements valued at approximately 12.75 billion euros across sectors including renewable energy, advanced technology, and healthcare.
In addition to the solar project, Masdar and Khazna Data Centers have agreed to advance green data center development in Greece. This partnership aims to combine renewable energy and storage expertise to support the growing electricity demands of digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence in the region.
