The Merak was designed to appeal to a broader audience than the high-performance Bora, utilizing a six-cylinder engine similar to the modern MC20.

In recent developments, Sezer Design has released AI-assisted concept renders for a new Maserati Ghibli. While these images are not official announcements from Maserati, they envision a modern fastback-style sedan with a futuristic digital interior. Although a return to the Ghibli name is not currently planned, Maserati and Stellantis have indicated that sedans will maintain a presence in the brand's future lineup.
