Maserati seeks Chinese partnership with Huawei and JAC Group
Stellantis is reportedly in advanced negotiations with Chinese technology firm Huawei and automaker JAC Group to form a long-term industrial and technological partnership centered on Maserati.
The proposed collaboration aims to address Maserati’s recent economic struggles and technological gaps, particularly in software and electric vehicle development. Under the potential arrangement, Huawei would provide the Harmony Intelligent Mobility software platform, while JAC Group would handle engineering and production.
A dual-brand strategy is being considered: co-developed models could be sold in China under JAC and Huawei’s luxury brand, Maextro, while being marketed internationally under the Maserati name. This move follows a significant decline in Maserati’s sales, which dropped from a peak of approximately 51,500 vehicles in 2017 to roughly 8,000 units recently, resulting in substantial operational losses.
Stellantis has not confirmed the reports, stating it routinely discusses business with global companies, and neither Huawei nor JAC Group has commented. The partnership would align with Stellantis’s FaSTLAne 2030 plan to strengthen Maserati through new E-segment models.
