Mashhad cinema murder indictment issued

An indictment has been issued and the case has been referred to the first criminal court following a fatal stabbing incident at a cinema in Mashhad. The crime occurred in the early hours of January 3, 2024, at a commercial complex in the Seyedi district.

The incident began as a dispute inside a cinema hall between two brothers and a young couple. According to the survivor, Shoaib, the conflict escalated after the man in the couple accused the brothers of harassing his wife. After a brief physical altercation inside the theater, the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Yaser, pursued the brothers in a Hyundai Santa Fe. He then attacked them with a knife, resulting in the death of Arif and injuries to Shoaib.

Following a five-month manhunt, the suspect was apprehended by detectives while attempting to leave the country. After a reconstruction of the crime scene and detailed investigations supervised by Judge Sadegh Safari, the prosecutor's office finalized the indictment.
