Mashhad Shooting Kills Two on Day of Khamenei Funeral

Two people were killed in a shooting in the Sarrafrazan area of Mashhad, Iran, on the evening of July 10, 2026, the same day former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was buried in his hometown. Iranian officials said the incident stemmed from a personal dispute and was not a terrorist act. Local authorities indicated that a third individual was involved, leading to the deaths of the two victims, but the identities and motives remain under investigation.

The shooting occurred more than 15 kilometres west of the Imam Reza holy shrine, and officials denied rumors that it happened near the shrine or was linked to the funeral ceremonies, which drew millions of mourners across Iran and Iraq.
