Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Eldoret’s Kipchoge Keino Stadium
Thousands of Kenyans gathered at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret for the 63rd Mashujaa Day celebrations, a national event jointly hosted by Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Elgeyo Marakwet counties. The festivities featured military parades, musical performances by groups such as the Maroon Commandos, and various cultural displays.
Despite the patriotic atmosphere, the event faced logistical challenges. The 15,000-capacity stadium reached its limit early in the morning, leaving many attendees unable to enter. Additionally, the stadium's ongoing renovations became a point of discussion, as the unfinished roofing left attendees and dignitaries, including President William Ruto and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, exposed to direct sunlight during the ceremony.
Construction at the facility is reportedly approximately 78 per cent complete, with full completion expected by the end of December 2026.
