Masindi Municipal Councilors probe Shs510 million AFCON fund expenditure

Masindi Municipal Councilors have questioned the town clerk, mayor, and executive members regarding the alleged unauthorized spending of Shs510 million. The funds were reportedly designated for preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

During a municipal council meeting, councilors expressed concern that the supplementary budget for the 2025/2026 financial year was being presented for approval after the money had already been spent. Councilors, including Nangobi Aisha, have called for investigations by the Public Accounts Committee and the Auditor’s Office.

Town Clerk Paul Moko defended the expenditure, describing it as an emergency necessitated by the approaching end of the financial year. Masindi Municipality Mayor Rodgers Amanyire also defended the executive's actions.
