Masjid Sri Sendayan named Global Outstanding Mosque of the Year 2026
Masjid Sri Sendayan in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, has been named the ‘Global Outstanding Mosque of the Year’ at the 2026 World Islamic Tourism & Trade Awards (WITA). The award was presented to Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain, Chairman of the Masjid Sri Sendayan Committee, during a ceremony at the World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
The mosque, which has a capacity for 5,000 worshippers, was recognized for its integration of Islamic architecture, religious values, and community development. Completed in 2019, the facility serves as a center for learning, welfare, and social connection beyond its traditional role as a place of worship.
Designed with inspiration from Abbasid-era architecture and Mamluk elements, the mosque was built on a 10-acre lakeside site. Its construction utilized materials and expertise from various countries, including Italy, Dubai, Portugal, Egypt, and India. The WITA awards are organized by the Malaysia Tourism Agency Association (MATA) to recognize excellence in the Islamic and Muslim-friendly tourism sectors.
