Masked tourists in the Tatra Mountains raise safety concerns

A growing trend of masked tourists in the Tatra Mountains is causing concern among park rangers and mountain guides. Visitors are increasingly filming high-altitude climbs for social media while covering their faces to remain anonymous.

Polish Tatra National Park rangers have noted a rise in such behavior, particularly in inaccessible or extremely challenging areas. Piotr Mazik, a representative of the Tatra guides association, warned that these videos can create a false impression of safety, encouraging unprepared individuals to attempt dangerous peaks like Gerlachovský štít, Pyšný štít, and Žabí kôň without proper experience or guidance.

While masking one's face does not inherently violate park regulations, authorities noted they may attempt to identify individuals if rules are broken. The risk is heightened by late-season weather conditions, including recent snowfall and avalanche warnings in the region.
