Mason Greenwood receives hostile reception from Aston Villa fans

Mason Greenwood was subjected to continuous booing and jeering from Aston Villa supporters during his first appearance in an English football stadium since 2022. Playing for Turkish club Fenerbahce, the 25-year-old faced heavy criticism from the crowd at Villa Park, with fans targeting him during team announcements and whenever he touched the ball.

Greenwood, who joined Fenerbahce from Marseille last summer for approximately £36 million, was previously a Manchester United player. His career in England was interrupted in October 2022 following his arrest and charges of attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behaviour. While he denied all wrongdoing and the charges were subsequently dropped in February 2023 after witnesses withdrew, his return to English football has remained a point of significant contention for supporters.
