Masorange reevaluates Ericsson agreement and opens mobile network tender

Masorange, Spain's leading telecommunications operator by customer count, has notified Ericsson that the second phase of their July 2024 agreement is not guaranteed. The original pact aimed to replace Huawei equipment with Ericsson hardware, with a goal of Ericsson becoming the sole provider by 2027.

However, Masorange reports that Ericsson has failed to meet agreed-upon quality objectives. Current market shares show Ericsson at 57% and Huawei at 43%, missing the target of reducing Huawei's share to 37% by 2027. Consequently, Masorange is opening a tender process in October to evaluate new proposals. Potential suppliers include Nokia and Samsung, as well as the possibility of maintaining Huawei in the network.
