Mass Effect multiplayer restored to Legendary Edition via PC mod

Modders have successfully restored the multiplayer component to the Mass Effect Legendary Edition on PC. While BioWare originally omitted the multiplayer mode from the remaster due to technical complexity, a modder known as PayDay1 utilized reverse engineering tools, including AI assistance from Anthropic’s Claude Code, to bring the feature back.

The mod includes 66 playable characters, 19 maps, four enemy factions, and various difficulty levels, challenges, and leaderboards. It also features text and voice chat, along with high-resolution textures updated for the Legendary Edition. This allows players to engage in the same cooperative gameplay seen in the original 2012 release of Mass Effect 3.

In the broader context of space-themed RPGs, titles like Bethesda’s Starfield continue to offer similar experiences for fans of the genre, featuring deep character customization, fleet command, and planetary exploration.
