Mass Effect Universe leaked details following BioWare studio closure

Following the closure of BioWare and the cancellation of the project titled ‘Mass Effect Universe’, new details regarding the unreleased fifth installment have emerged. According to information shared by a community council member, the game was set 600 years after the events of Mass Effect 3, aligning chronologically with Mass Effect: Andromeda.

The narrative would have addressed the multiple endings of the previous trilogy by utilizing the 600-year time jump to minimize the impact of specific player choices. For instance, if the ‘Destroy’ ending was chosen, Commander Shepard would have been deceased for centuries, though their legacy would remain significant. The setting was described as a galactic cold war involving three major factions: an alliance of humanity, Krogan, and Batarians; a bloc of Council races; and the Geth, who had become a superpower through the construction of megastructures.

Gameplay reportedly featured customizable agents with experimental cybernetic technology, allowing for environmental manipulation and hacking. While missions were designed to be handcrafted, they offered a level of freedom similar to the ‘Hitman’ series, permitting various approaches to objectives. The game was intended to feature unedited romance options and the return of characters such as Liara as a powerful Asari matriarch.
