Mass General Brigham launches EDDx program for early cancer detection
The Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute has developed the Early Detection and Diagnosis Program (EDDx) to address the challenges of incidental findings during medical imaging, such as CT scans or MRIs. These unexpected anomalies can lead to patient uncertainty, fragmented follow-up, and delays in care.
Led by oncology specialist Lecia Sequist, MD, MPH, the EDDx program utilizes a centralized multidisciplinary model to accelerate the diagnostic process. By coordinating oncologists, radiologists, and surgeons, the program ensures that suspicious findings are evaluated quickly and patients are connected to the appropriate specialists. This approach aims to provide longitudinal care for high-risk individuals, ultimately reducing morbidity and mortality through earlier intervention, often before symptoms appear.
