Mass grave of 25 civilians discovered in Sudan’s Kurmuk

A mass grave containing at least 25 bodies has been discovered in the town of Kurmuk in Sudan’s Blue Nile State. The remains, which include women, children, and hospital staff, were found by the Sudanese armed forces during sweeping operations after the military regained control of the area from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Local officials and reports indicate the victims were executed near Jebel Fankat, a hilltop position previously used by the RSF to launch drone attacks. The discovery follows recent military actions in the region, with accusations that the RSF killed dozens of civilians during attacks in July and buried them secretly.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has expressed concern regarding the incident, calling for accountability and compensation for civilians. The ongoing conflict in Sudan has resulted in an estimated 40,000 deaths and forced more than 14 million people to flee their homes.
