Mass shooting in Prospect Hill, North Carolina leaves multiple dead

On the morning of 5 August 2026, a mass shooting occurred at 352 Brooks Road in the rural community of Prospect Hill, Caswell County, North Carolina. Deputies from the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office arrived shortly before 8 a.m. and found several adults from the same family shot dead; at least three fatalities have been confirmed and a fourth family member was taken to Duke University Hospital with a gunshot wound.

Sheriff Tony Durden immediately requested assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). SBI crime‑scene investigators, together with the State Highway Patrol and local emergency services, are processing evidence and interviewing witnesses. Authorities say the incident is contained to the address and there is no ongoing threat to the public. No suspect has been identified or arrested, and the shooter is believed to be among the deceased.

The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to notify next of kin and determine a motive.
