Massa homicide investigation: minor charged with voluntary murder
The Juvenile Prosecutor's Office in Genoa has concluded its investigation into the death of 47-year-old Giacomo Bongiorni, who was killed during a violent brawl in Massa's Piazza Palma on April 11.
The investigation involves three minors who were involved in the incident. One minor, a former boxer, faces charges of voluntary homicide in conjunction with an adult, Eduard Alin Carutasu. The prosecution alleges that after a verbal dispute, the teenager struck Bongiorni in the jaw, causing him to lose consciousness, and subsequently struck him twice more in the face while he was on the ground. Carutasu is also accused of delivering a violent kick to the victim's face.
The other two minors are being charged with aggravated rioting and causing injuries to Gabriele Tognocchi, the victim's brother-in-law. The brawl reportedly began after Bongiorni and Tognocchi reprimanded the group of youths during a walk. Bongiorni died from a massive cranial hemorrhage following the assault, an event witnessed by his 11-year-old son.
While the juvenile investigation has concluded, the proceedings for the adults continue through the Massa Prosecutor's Office, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 24.
